This horrifying incident took place on Day 1 of the Pakistan vs Australia first test match, which is being held at Rawalpindi. The news comes as a shock as the blast took place just 190 km away from where the two nations are playing the test game. The blast certainly raises questions about the security of the Australian players who have visited Pakistan soil after over two decades. Reports claim that the blast took place at the Jamia mosque, situated in Qissa Khwani bazaar area in Peshawar.

Rescue officials claim that the blast took the lives of 30 people while people were gathered in the mosque on Friday to offer their prayers. Among those who have been injured, the conditions of 10 people are said to be extremely critical. Reports claim that no group has claimed their involvement in the case. Witnesses said they saw two assailants firing at policemen and then going inside the mosque following which the blast was heard.

Australia last played an away series in Pakistan in 1997 and after 24 years when they visit Pakistan, this incident certainly raises concern about the security of the nation. The Australians are however provided top-notch security with the players and the staff being given VVIP security status.

In the first test match being held in Rawalpindi, Pakistan went off to a flying start. A steady 100 run partnership between Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq was halted when Shafique was dismissed at 44. Imam-ul-Haq went on to score a magnificent ton and remained not out on 132 at Stumps of Day 1.

Imam-ul-Haq was supported by the one-down batter Azhar Ali who went on to score his half-century and ended the day on 64 not out. It was a poor day for the Australian bowling department, as a total of 8 players tried their hand at bowling with the unusual like Steve Smith. Nathan Lyon was the only bowler who was successful in claiming a wicket. Australia ended Day 1 with a comfortable score of 245/1.
