Australia TOUR of India: Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh will most likely miss the upcoming Australia Tour of India after undergoing surgery on a long-standing ankle injury this week, heavily damaging his chances of a Test recall. Marsh underwent keyhole surgery on his left ankle to remove loose bone fragments and restore cartilage. He is expected to be out of action for three months. Last month, Glenn Maxwell broke his leg, rendering him ineligible for Australia’s Tour of India. Follow Australia Tour of India & IPL 2023 LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN

The West Australian’s best chance to shake off the Baggy Green was the upcoming four-Test series in India; on the sub-continent conditions, he could have provided another seam option if Australia choose to go with two strike spinners.
He was chosen for Australia’s most recent tour of Asia, which included a two-match series against Sri Lanka in July, but he hasn’t participated in a Test match since the 2019 Ashes.
Australian chair of electors George Bailey said in a statement: “Mitchell is an important member of our squads, and we will support him through his recovery period and we are hopeful he will be available for Australian selection for the ODI series against India in March.
“In undertaking the surgery now, it gives Mitchell the best chance to recover and resume his all-rounder skillset which is an important part of our plans for the upcoming year and beyond.”
Marsh will watch from the sidelines alongside fellow all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who had an unexpected injury in the middle of November. After Australia’s failed T20 World Cup defence, Maxwell took an innocuous fall at a friend’s house, breaking his left fibula.
