Australia Playing XI 3rd ODI: Cummins, Starc & Maxwell eye comeback after injury spells

Heavyweight stars return to Australia Playing XI after long injury spell in final IND vs AUS ODI game

With the series lost, Australia will play for pride and the preparation leading to the ICC World Cup 2023. Australia skipper Pat Cummins is likely to make a comeback into the squad along with fellow pacer Mitchell Starc. Joining the Aussie skipper, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is also likely to feature in the Australia Playing XI for the IND vs AUS 3rd ODI.

“It’s (recovery) on track. Obviously, the priority is the World Cup so if that means we have to be mindful of tomorrow that’s one thing, but we’ll see how today goes, see how I pull up in the morning. The goal is to play tomorrow, but what that looks like depends on how today goes, the priority being the World Cup and not compromising that,” said Mitchell Starc at the press conference.

Pat Cummins featured in the 1st ODI and is expected to make a comeback in the final game of the series. On the other hand, Mitchell Strac who has been injured for quite some time is prepared to take the field. Glenn Maxwell too hit the practice session and is inching closer to gaining 100% match fitness. He too is likely to start for the Men in Yellow.

“Yeah, Glenn [Maxwell] has come back as well,” Starc said. “He is on track. I am not sure about his particular timeline but no doubt he will be looking to make an impact as soon as he gets his chance. He has got a wealth of experience over here through IPL, through multiple tours. He is certainly an X-factor no matter which team he plays in. This is his third one-day World Cup. He is an X-factor for us and certainly who can take the game on.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne complete the Aussie top order. Down the lower order will be occupied by the two all-rounders. On comes Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green will complete the lower order with Alex Carrey.

As for the pace options, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood will spearhead the pace attack while the solitary spin option in the squad will be Adam Zampa.
