AUS-W beat IND-W: Dominant Australia thrash India by 9 wickets despite Mithali Raj’s 50, take 1-0 lead in ODI series: Australia Women thrashed India Women by 9 wickets in the first ODI here at Harrup Park, Mackay on Tuesday to take 1-0 lead in the series on the back of an all-round dominant show from Haynes, Healy, Lanning, and D Brown. Darcie Brown’s four-wicket haul and a 126-run opening stand between Alyssa Healy and Rachael Haynes were the main highlights of the match along with India skipper Mithali Raj’s fifty.

Chasing 226, the hosts got off to a solid start as both openers Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy brought up a 100-run opening stand in just the 18th over of the innings. India finally managed to break the opening partnership in the 22nd over as Poonam Yadav dismissed Healy (77). Then came out the Australia captain Meg Lanning who made sure not to lose the momentum or wicket. Eventually, Racheal Haynes (93*) and Lanning (53*) took Australia over the line along with 54 balls to spare.

AUS-W beat IND-W: With this win, Australia has not only taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series but also Meg Lanning’s side has extended its unbeaten run in ODIs to 25 matches.

Earlier, put in to bat, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana provided a quickfire start and put on 31 runs inside the first four overs. However, the hosts stormed right back as Darcie Brown dismissed both Shafali (8) and Mandhana (16), reducing India to 38/2 in the sixth over. Mithali Raj and debutant Yastrika Bhatia managed 77 runs partnership for the third wicket and just when they were looking all set to shift gears, the visitors lost the wicket of Bhatia (35) to Brown in the 26th over. Deepti Sharma too (9) failed to leave a mark with the bat, handing Brown her fourth wicket as India was reduced to 129/4 in the 31st over.

However, India eventually managed to post a total of 225/8 in the end, after little cameos from Richa Ghosh and Jhulan Goswami of 32 and 20 respectively. Skipper Mithali Raj (61) ended up as the top scorer for the side as she hit her 5th consecutive ODI 50 and also completed 20,000 career runs in the process.
