AUS vs WI: Nicholas Pooran continues his IPL form, slams 75 from 25 in T20 World Cup warm-up match

AUS vs WI: Nicholas Pooran was exceptional of the day and gave a warning to the opposition teams, for the T20 World Cup.

It has been a few days since the IPL 2024 got over, and little longer for LSG, as they did not make it to the playoffs. Despite their forgettable season in the IPL this year, it was a memorable one for West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran. He smashed 499 runs in 14 matches at an average of 62, and a strike-rate 178.

T20 World Cup

Now, the hard-hitting southpaw has continued his form in the T20 World Cup warm-up matches too. In the encounter against a depleted Australian squad, Pooran raced his way through 75 from just 25 deliveries, on Friday. Striking at 300, Pooran had eight sixes and five fours in his innings. Surprisingly, he ran only five singles throughout his innings.

Ever since he arrived on the crease after an early departure of Shai Hope, he looked in punishing mood. In fact, he hit his first three deliveries for sixes, vs Ashton Agar and then Nathan Ellis. Not just that, he came to the crease after 2.5 overs, and had done the damage by the time he got out in 9.2 overs.

Such was his presence on the crease, that he just played five dot deliveries.

Rovman Powell & Sherfane Rutherford Make it Count

Not just Nicholas Pooran, but skipper Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford also joined the party. The captain scored a blistering 52 from 25, while Rutherford gave a further catalyst to the innings, and smashed 47 from 18. Australian bowlers were terrible on the day, as Zampa returned with figures of 2/62.
