Australia opener Usman Khawaja stood his ground amid the top-order collapse to score a half-century in the 1st innings of the AUS vs WI 2nd Test on Friday. The southpaw was the lone spectator for his side at the popping crease as the other batsmen walked in and out.

AUS vs WI: Khawaja’s lone fightback continues

Khawaja played a patient knock en route to his half-century as Australia slowly recovered from the onslaught unleashed by the Windies. With just six boundaries under his belt, the southpaw has held his nerves so far as Australia trail the visitors by over 100 runs and have just three wickets to spare.

The opener also stitched together a crucial partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, who also scored a half-century before being dismissed.

After getting rid of the West Indies for 311 runs in the 1st innings of the AUS vs WI 2nd Test, the hosts got off to a scary start, suffering a top-order collapse barring Usman Khawaja. Steve Smith’s misery as the side’s new opener continued as he departed for yet another single digit score.

A fiery Kemar Roach was instrumental in sending half of the side back to the pavilion as he grabbed three wickets. Alzarri Joseph joined the fray, scalping a couple of wickets, as Australia struggled to get going against the Windies.
