AUS vs SL Highlights: Australia claimed first win of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 after Sri Lanka collapsed from 125-0 to 209 all out. It was skipper Pat Cummins who brought Australia back into the game, sending openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera back. Then Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc ensured that they restricted the Lankans, picking up 6 wickets between them. Other than openers Nissanka and Perera, no Sri Lankan batter crossed the 25-run mark, losing their 10 wickets for just 84 runs.

Australia’s loss to South Africa, by a big margin of 134 runs, marked their biggest defeat in the World Cup. In the first innings, South Africa, riding on Quinton de Kock’s century, posted a formidable total of 311 runs, with Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc both claiming two wickets each. However, Australia’s chase of this target took a turn, with their batting lineup collapsing to just 70 runs for the loss of six wickets. Although Marnus Labuschagne’s efforts tried to salvage the situation, they eventually succumbed, getting bowled out for 177.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka found themselves unable to defend a good total of 344 runs against Pakistan. In their innings, Sri Lankan batters Kusal Mendis and Samarawickrama both scored centuries, propelling their team past the 300-run mark. However, Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique and Mohammed Rizwan responded with centuries of their own, resulting in a six-wicket win for the Men In Green. Sri Lanka had already experienced defeat in their opening match against South Africa, where they fell short by massive margin of 102 runs.
