Australia, South Africa gear up for exciting series
Australia’s last test loss at the Gabba was against a depleted Indian side back in 2020/21. However the Aussies restored the order beating England in the Ashes. Speaking about the Gabba test, Cummins said, “The last couple of years it’s played a bit different to how it has in the past. It’s a funny one the Gabba – even if it has got grass on it, you do really need to bowl well. It’s got a bit of bounce normally here. You can get carried away with the seam but you still need to hit the stumps.”
He further went onto add, ” A couple of the boys said it’s similar to what they’ve seen here in the past. It looks like there’s a bit of grass. So we’ll see how it looks tomorrow. They’ll give it a final cut. It always looks pretty green here a couple of days out, then on the morning of day one it looks a bit different.”
This will be the first series between both the teams since the infamous ‘Sandpaper gate’ incident in 2018. The tone for the infamous 2018 test series played in South Africa was set with the staircase altercation between David Warner and Quinton de Kock. Kagiso Rabada was banned for two matches after his altercation with Steve Smith. However the series will be remembered for the infamous ‘Sandpapergate scandal’ which took place in Newlands.
