Pakistan captain Shan Masood urged for patience as he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to adopt an attacking style of cricket against top Test teams. Facing significant pressure from the outset in the opening Test against Australia, Pakistan ultimately suffered a substantial defeat by 360 runs. Looking forward to the Boxing Day Test, Masood emphasizes that bringing about a change in performance requires time and cannot happen overnight.
“One Test is never a fair assessment,” the new skipper said. “You need time. You need a bit more time. You’ve already got a squad that’s been playing Test cricket for a while. You have to look at the domestic structure and the players available for red-ball cricket. A lot of things you need before you can sort of force that way of playing.” said Shan Masood
Masood set an example in the first innings by making a brisk start, securing five boundaries. However, he couldn’t capitalize on this initial momentum and departed for 30, contributing to Pakistan conceding a substantial first innings lead.
“You need players to buy in. We want to give players ample opportunity to buy into the way we want to play. There are some things that we’ve said from the outside that we want to play a more attractive brand of Test cricket. We did that in Sri Lanka. We got some results as well. The challenge now is to do it against the best teams in world cricket.” he concluded.
Pakistan eye redemption in AUS vs PAK:
Australia demonstrated their dominance in the initial Test against Pakistan, clinching a resounding victory by 360 runs in Perth. Establishing a substantial lead of 216 runs in the first innings, Australia’s formidable batting performance pushed Pakistan into a defensive position. Khawaja and Marsh contributed with half-centuries, and after Khawaja’s departure at 90, Australia declared, setting an imposing target of 450 runs for Pakistan.
