AUS vs PAK ODIs: Australia Cricket Team begins Champions Trophy 2025 preparations as Pat Cummins return after World Cup win

Australia Cricket Team ODI skipper Pat Cummins is set to be back in ODIs after nearly a year since the ODI World Cup 2023 victory. Australia has recalled all their big guns as Cricket Australia announces the ODI squad for the upcoming AUS vs PAK ODI series. Along with Pat Cummins, veteran all-rounder Marcus Stoinis too returns to the ODI squad.

The Men in Yellow are not taking the ODI series against Pakistan lightly. This is mainly owing to the fact the series would serve as a practice before the much anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Interestingly, the series will see the return of ODI skipper Pat Cummins who last featured in the 50-over format by winning the ODI World Cup in India in 2023.

While Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh miss out, the seniors of white ball cricket like Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Starc are all back in the squad for the three-match ODI series on home soil. The juniors too have got their chance. Destructive batter Jake Fraser-McGurk is there in the 14-man squad along with the likes of Cooper Connolly and Aaron Hardie.

On the other hand, ace all-rounder Cameron Green will be missing the series. The star player opted for surgery on his stress fracture and is expected to be out of action for around six months. This means he will also miss the entire summer which includes the ICC Champions Trophy.

“This is our last ODI series before the Champions Trophy and the balance of the squad was focussed on that as well as continuing to focus on preparation of individuals for the upcoming Test summer. The one-day side had a great result in the UK particularly given illness and injury challenges. We view this is an opportunity to expand on that achievement in preparation for next February in Pakistan.” George Bailey
