AUS vs PAK: David Warner bids farewell to MCG amid standing ovation from roaring crowd

AUS versus PAK: David Warner says farewell to the MCG to a standing ovation from a raucous crowd as Mir Hamza dismisses him for 6 runs.

Dismissed early on Day 3 of the AUS vs PAK Test, MCG curtains fell for Warner as he waved goodbye to the roaring crowd. David Warner received a standing ovation on Thursday as he walked back to the dressing room, marking the conclusion of his Test career at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Warner made his international debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in a T20I encounter against South Africa in 2009. Over the course of his career, he has participated in 11 Test matches at this venue, amassing a total of 912 runs, which includes three centuries. Notably, his best performance at the MCG occurred last year when he scored a double hundred against South Africa.

In Australia’s ongoing Boxing Day Test, the left-hander managed only six runs in the second innings before Mir Hamza dismissed him in the fifth over. Hamza initiated with a shorter delivery outside off. Warner, attempting a pull shot, ended up dragging a thick inside edge back onto the middle stump.

Meanwhile, David Warner is set bid adieu to Test cricket in the upcoming Benaud-Qadir Test against Pakistan at the SCG.

Insidesport

Warner was visibly disappointed over his dismissal, but the heartfelt response from the MCG crowd likely stirred his emotions. Despite the setback, he acknowledged the crowd by waving his bat and offering a thumbs-up gesture. Additionally, Warner added a touching moment to the scene by handing his batting gloves to an excited kid eagerly awaiting a high-five from the veteran Australian batter.
