Jos Buttler won the toss and put Australia into bat in what turned out to be a decision to regret as openers David Warner and Travis Head put on a stunning partnership at the top of the order. The left-handed du0 brought a 250-run plus opening stand before they were removed by Olly Stone, with both scoring centuries at the MCG.

Travis Head (152 off 130) smashed his third career International hundred in just 91 balls. While David Warner also played a good hand with his 106-run knock off 102 balls. After rain interrupted the game, play was reduced by 2 overs. Aussies made 354 in 48 overs.

In response, England were set a 364-run target by DLS which was always a daunting task. England had lost their opener Phil Salt to a concussion. Moeen Ali, who was originally rested, is back in the team as a concussion substitute. However, he will not be able to bowl.

Malan opened the batting and perished early. While Jason Roy and James Vince tried to resurrect the innings, their effort fell flat as England folded like dominoes under pressure. The world champions slipped to 95/7 with Adam Zampa and Pat Cummins forcing the collapse.

David Willey and Sam Curran swung the bat late in the innings, but the result was juts a formality. Zampa dismissed Willey for the last wicket as Australia sealed a 221-run win at the MCG. They also achieved  a whitewash over the world champions, beginning their preparations for the 2023 World Cup on the perfect note.
