Aus vs Eng 1st Test Live: Naseer Hussain’s MASTER PLAN on how England can win Ashes 2021
- Score big runs in first innings- England must get off to a good start and put pressure on Australia.
- Attack David Warner- One of the key battles will be England’s bowlers vs in-form David Warner
- Plan B with the ball- Joe Root needs to be aware the pitches and conditions can change quickly
Score big-
- The battle is all set to start right at the toss with teams winning the coin toss are likely to bat first. England can win the Test if they get a big score in the first innings.
- The top 3 batsmen need to fire – Rory Burns, Haseeb Hameed and Dawid Malan. Joe Root and Ben Stokes then need to score as big as possible, put Australia under pressure.
- Naseer Hussain has warned Joe Root not to opt for bowling at Brisbane, Gabba. The England captain should not go by Brisbane’s history.
- An early decision to bowl first could dampen hopes of England as grass could easily be disappeared by the time the two captains come out at the toss.
- The pitches and conditions can change quickly in Australia which could even assist even or get uneven towards the end of a Test match.
Plan B with the ball-
- Stuart Broad and Co will have to make the most of the Kookaburra balls that swing more than usual, especially with James Anderson ruled out of the opener.
- The balls were of the same batch used during the India Tour of Australia and England can inspiration from Virat Kohli & Co.
- Flexibility will be the key and the bowlers will have to deliver in absence of Jofra Archer ad Olly Stone.
- England needs to come up with a balanced attack that can cope with changing conditions.
- The Duke ball in England swings even after 70 overs but Australia will demand quick amendments. In such a case, Jack Leach could be used in a defensive way in the first innings to give some time to the seamers for round two.
England bowlers vs David Warner
- The battle between England and David Warner will be of utmost importance in deciding the fate of Ashes.
- Warner can set the tone for dangerous Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. They have to prevent Australia from scoring big at home.
- He has scored 4551 runs in 45 Tests at an average of 63+ at home. Against England, he has scored 1615 runs in 23 games at an average of nearly 40 which features 3 centuries and 12 fifties. He had amassed 441 runs in 5 Tests in the last Ashes in Australia.
- Stuart Broad is on top of him in Test cricket in England. The bowling department needs to come all guns blazing against Warner and try to get his wicket as early as possible.
- Team India proved that Gabba is no longer a fortress as Australia do have vulnerabilities. Warner is trying to resurrect his career while Travis Head and Marcus Harris are trying to get back in rhythm.
NOTE: England lost nine out of their last 10 tests in Australia. During the last Test in Brisbane, England looked well set for a score of 400+ with James Vince taking centre stage but were bowled out for 302. As a result, they ended up on the losing side.
