AUS Playing XI: Josh Hazlewood misses out again- Australia’s premium pacer Josh Hazlewood is all set to miss out on a straight third Test match after a lingering side injury ruled him out after the opening Test in Brisbane. Follow Ashes LIVE updates on InsideSport.IN
“It’s no secret that if Josh Hazlewood was available then he was going to play,” Australia captain Pat Cummins told reporters.
“He’s been just a brilliant bowler for us for a long period of time. We gave Josh every chance we could, just felt like he couldn’t bowl at full tilt yesterday. We’re still hoping he’ll be right for Hobart,” he added.
- Usman Khawaja, who made it to the Ashes squad after being ignored since 2019, has been tipped as a replacement for COVID positive Travis Head for the fourth Test at Sydney.
“He’s a seasoned pro, you know he’s going to walk in and you know what you’re going to get from him,” Cummins added.
“He’s a class player, he knows his game really well. He’s in this squad because we felt like he could bat anywhere in the top six, so there might be some nerves but he’s experienced … we expect a big game from him.”
“Heady will be back in for Hobart. I’ve got no idea … either way it’s good drama,” he hinted on Khawaja’s only change to make an impact.
- Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson’s wait for a Test debut will have to wait as Nathan Lyon will be considered with Australia gunning for a 5-0 whitewash.
- Scott Boland keeps his place ahead of Jhye Richardson after his heroics at Melbourne. Both took fifers in their lone Ashes outings but Boland took the joint-fastest five-wicket haul in Test history as Australia regained Ashes at MCG. He finished with exceptional bowling figure of 6/7 at his home ground on debut.
“You need a disciplined stump-to-stump bowler (at the SCG) and that’s what Scotty brings,” Cummins said on Tuesday.
