Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu has been in some great form lately, and that has translated into some great achievements for their national team. On Tuesday, the veteran southpaw scored yet another ton — 102 from only 63 deliveries — to win the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier against Scotland by 68 runs, in Abu Dhabi.

Athapaththu’s second ton in T20Is also means that Sri Lanka will feature in the quarters of the T20 World Cup, and will be placed in Group A alongside Australia, India, New Zealand and Pakistan. On the other hand, Scotland will be clubbed with South Africa, England, West Indies and Bangladesh.

After being put into bat, it was Chamari Athapaththu show right from the beginning. After Sri Lanka were reduced to 55/3 in 8.4 overs, it looked like, it was going to be a low-scoring match, but the skipper led from the front and ensured she took her team to a safe total. In fact, she accelerated from there on in her partnership of over 100 with Nilakshika Silva.
What is interesting is that, Athapaththu scored 80 runs in the entire partnership, while Silva managed only 26 from 26. As for Scotland, Rachel Slater was the pick of the bowlers, who returned with figures of 2/35 in her four overs.
Come the chase, the Scottish team could only manage 101/7 in their stipulated 20 overs. Priyanaz Chatterji was their top-scorer with 30 from 34. At one stage, their team was reeling at 4/23 in 5.5 overs. As far as the Lanka bowling is concerned, Udeshika Prabodhani emerged as the best on the day, as he picked up three wickets for only 18 runs.
Meanwhile, both the teams had already secured their T20 World Cup berths already, prior to this match. The tournament is set to be played in Bangladesh in October this year.
