Shreyas Iyer silences doubters with stunning Ton ahead of World Cup

Shreyas Iyer came out with all guns blazing in IND vs AUS to put out a dominant display and slam a fine century

Shreyas Iyer finally breaks his jinx. The dependable batter failed to gather good runs under his belt in the Asia Cup and his progress was hindered by a back spasm. Keeping everything at bay, in the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI, Iyer came out with all guns blazing as he took the task to the opposition. Iyer silenced his doubters with his 3rd ODI century from just 86 balls.

Batting with a strike rate of 170, Iyer hammered 6 fours to reach 34 runs from just 20 balls before the rain brought the game to a halt. Soon after he slammed 2 boundaries including a massive six to reach his fifty from just 42 balls. But he continued his carnage. He slammed 11 fours and 3 huge sixes to reach his 3rd ODI century and his very first at the Holkar Stadium.

Why is Shreyas Iyer’s form important?

With just weeks remaining before the World Cup, it is absolutely crucial for Shreyas Iyer to get back to his rhythm. With India’s top order with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli set a lot will depend on the middle order for the Men in Blue.

Injuries have been harsh on the KKR batter. Iyer missed the entirety of IPL 2023 and the WTC Finals. He went under the knife for his back stress fracture and recovered just in time for the Asia Cup.

But alas, his progress was halted when he suffered a back spasm and missed out on quite a couple of games.

His return to India and the opening game against Australia too didn’t go in his favour. He was a victim of an unfortunate runout after scoring just 3 runs. But letting bygones be bygones, Iyer came out with a vengeance in Indore.

Following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s cheap dismissal, Iyer continued to hammer the Aussie bowlers as Baby Goat Shubman Gill took the backseat to enjoy Iyer’s batting.
