At 16, Farhan Ahmed becomes youngest to take fifer in County Championships

County Championships: Farhan Ahmed is England spinner Rehan's brother, and is rated highly by many experts in cricketing circles.

This current County season is seeing some great performances by the English players, and now it is the turn of 16-year-old spinner Farhan Ahmed to take the centerstage. At 16 years and 189 days, the off-spinner became the youngest in the history of the tournament to take a five-wicket haul, surpassing Derbyshire’s Hamidullah Qadri, who had the previous record at 16 years and 203 days, when he bagged a fifer against Glamorgan in 2017.

This is Farhan’s second record, as he had earlier become Nottinghamshire’s youngest County Championship player, having played for the team once in the One Day Cup, and playing in the second XI as 14-year-old in 2022, as per Wisden. Meanwhile, in his record-breaking effort of 7/140, he picked up the wickets of Rory Burns, Ben Foakes, and Sai Sudarshan as well, who scored 105 in the match.

Sai Sudarshan Shines with Ton

On the other hand, India batsman Sai Sudarshan also shone in the match as he scored a ton in the match. He scored 105 for Surrey, vs Nottingham and put his team in a commanding position. His innings involved 10 fours and a six as well, and also went on to stitch a partnership of 101 with Jordan Clark, to take his team over 500.
