Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer experienced a moment of frustration during their IPL 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) involving a DRS review. During the match, Glenn Maxwell believed he had dismissed Travis Head caught behind by wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh, but when the on-field umpire gave it not out, Maxwell signaled for a DRS review immediately. Iyer expressed his frustration towards a teammate, suggesting with his actions to “ask me first” before going for the review. Eventually, Iyer decided to proceed with the DRS, but Travis Head remained not out.
Punjab Kings’ dominant batting performance
Despite the DRS drama, PBKS put on an impressive display with the bat, amassing 245/6 in 20 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Shreyas Iyer led from the front, scoring a blazing 82 off 36 deliveries, showcasing calculated aggression that set the foundation for a mammoth total.
Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis delivered a sensational finish to the innings, smashing four consecutive sixes in the final over to score 34 off just eleven balls. Stoinis, having struggled earlier in the season, found his form and finished PBKS’s innings with a flourish.
Shami and Patel’s contrasting outcomes
Unfortunately for Mohammed Shami, the final over became one to forget as it was hit for 27 runs, ending with figures of 4-0-75-0 — the second most expensive in IPL history. Shami’s initially rough start was compounded by PBKS’ aggressive approach.
On the other hand, Harshal Patel provided a standout moment with a game-changing 18th over, conceding only five runs and crucially removing both Shreyas Iyer and Maxwell in quick succession. Despite this setback, Stoinis ensured PBKS finished strong.
Aggressive approach from the Start
PBKS, after choosing to bat, attacked from the onset. Prabhsimran Singh set the tone early with aggressive shots against Mohammed Shami, providing the team with a flying start. The aggressive batting approach paid dividends, leading to a total that set SRH a challenging chase.
