Women’s Selection Committee has named Pooja Vastrakar as replacement for Anjali Sarvani at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. Vastrakar was earlier a part of the standby list of players for the tournament.

Left arm pacer Sarvani suffered a knee injury ahead of the Asiad. She has now been ruled out of the event. The Asian Games will be held from 19th September to 8th October 2023 at Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field. The women’s cricket competition will take place from 19th-28th September 2023 in a T20 format.
Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian Women’s side. However the skipper will miss the first two games owing to International Cricket Council (ICC) imposing a ban on her. During the ODI series against Bangladesh in July, Kaur was given out by the on-field umpire. The skipper went on to smash the stumps following the decison. She later went on to take a dig at the match officials after the three-match ODI series ended in a tie.
Asian Games: India to begin campaign from quarterfinal
At the Asian Games, India will directly begin their campaign from the quarter-finals. Incumbent women’s team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana will lead the team in the team in the quarterfinal and semifinal after Harmanrpeet’s absence.
In women’s category, nine teams will compete in the event. Indonesia, Mongolia, Hong Kong and Malaysia will play in the preliminary round. Teams like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have made the cut directly to the quarterfinal.
