Asia Cup 2023: There will be no Pakistan at Asia Cup 2023. Officials from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are considering a boycott of the continental showpiece if the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will go on with the proposal of moving the tournament to Sri Lanka.

The president of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Najam Sethi, met with representatives of the Asian Cricket Council on Tuesday in Dubai and voiced his opposition to the decision to transfer the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka rather than the UAE.

If not Pakistan, Asia Cup 2023 should be in UAE

If not Pakistan then Asia Cup 2023 should be played in UAE, said Najam Sethi to ACC.

“Sethi has stressed the ACC should accept Pakistan’s revised hybrid model proposal schedule for the Asia Cup and if at all the majority of members wish to have it elsewhere it must be held in UAE like in 2018 and 2022.”

“Sethi rubbished the concerns of the BCCI conveyed to the ACC that it would be too hot to play in UAE in September by pointing out today that the BCCI had held its IPL in UAE in September to November in 2020,” source in the PCB told PTI.

“I can tell you this much Sethi has taken a new hybrid model schedule to the ACC and it is a proposal they shouldn’t reject now,” source disclosed.

The source claimed that the PCB was shocked to find that the Sri Lankan board had informed the ACC that it wants to host the Asia Cup this year with covert assistance from the BCCI.

It was unexpected because Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan had previously rejected the Lankan plan at the most recent ACC board meeting in February, and it had been decided that Pakistan would continue to serve as the host.

If the continental competition is not staged in Pakistan this year during the Asia Cup window, Sethi had instructed his officials before departing for Dubai to begin planning a 3 or 4-nation event in Pakistan.
