Asia Cup 2023: The meeting with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and ICC, which will take place on Monday, March 20, will be the Pakistan Cricket Board’s final opportunity to voice its concerns and refute BCCI stunts on the Asia Cup 2023 hosting issues. A three-member delegation of the PCB led by interim management committee chairman Najam Sethi will travel to Dubai for the said meetings with BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who is the president of the ACC, having stated that the Indian team would not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup as it wasn’t being permitted by the Indian government. Following the executive board meeting of ACC members, PCB will make a final decision regarding whether or not to send their squad to the ICC World Cup in India. Meanwhile, the BCCI continue to maintain its stance of not travelling to Pakistan at any cost.

“Let the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) take a call on Indian team’s participation in Asia Cup first, then only the sports ministry and home ministry will decide,” Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said on Monday.

The PCB reiterated their position at the conclusion of the ACC meetings in Bahrain last month, saying that confrontations between the bitter rivals bring in a lot of money for both the ICC and the ACC.

According to reports, the ICC and ACC may decide to host Indo-Pak battles in the United Arab Emirates, a neutral location, although specific decisions will only be made after this month’s meetings.

Pakistan has been pushing for India to travel to Pakistan to compete in the Asia Cup in September. If they don’t, and the competition is shifted elsewhere, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will be compelled to forgo sending a side to India for the 50-over World Cup in October-November.

Najam Sethi stated on Saturday that getting support from other ACC members would be crucial if Pakistan were to host the continental championship. While speaking at a press conference ahead of his departure for Dubai to attend the ACC and ICC meetings, Sethi said: “It’s important to see how other members (of ACC) look at our stance on Asia Cup. What they think is important, but in the end we must realise how much clout the BCCI with its financial power carries in world cricket.”

“I have been in contact with senior members of ACC. I have informed them about our problems and we will try and find honourable solutions to the problems,” he added.
