Asia Cup 2022: Yuzvendra Chahal REVEALS how Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma’s specific inputs helped him become India’s number one spinner

“Rohit bhai had told me, you might have to bowl during powerplay and at the death overs before I started the IPL season this year,” Yuzvendra said Sports Yaari YouTube channel.

The praise did not stop there for the Indian captain, who has always given the bowler the freedom to decide various things. Even when the Indian team is batting, Rohit would quiz him about different match situations.  All these contributed in helping Chahal develop as a bowler.

“Rohit bhai always used me like a wicket-taking bowler. I got great liberty from him which every bowler expects from the captain.”

Contribution of Rahul Dravid: The Indian coach was quite simple in his message and work in his bowling.  “You might have to bowl at the death overs and powerplay overs while bowling for India. You try using the crease more,” said Chahal.

After hearing about that from the gaffer, the leggie had a word with his new captain in Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson. The captain gave him the confidence and also gave him the freedom and luxury to bowl he wanted to. Even before matches, he would try yorkers at practice and add to the variety.

Eventually, all such practice sessions and confidence has helped him become an even more dangerous bowler for India. The bowler has impressed with 14 wickets in six ODIs and 11 in 8 T20s for India after IPL 2022.
