Ashwin calls out Harry Brook’s lame “smog” excuse, gives “googly” tip to deal with Varun Chakravarthy

Ashwin suggested Harry Brook to read Varun Chakravarthy googlies to tackle him instead of giving the smog excuse

Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin gave Harry Brook a valuable tip to deal with Varun Chakravarthy after the England star’s “smog” excuse. After getting cleaned up by the Tamil Nadu spinner in Kolkata, Brook had claimed that he couldn’t read the delivery because of smog, only to be bamboozled in Chennai by the same bowler once again. The Englishman drew flak from the commentators following his dismissal in IND vs ENG 2nd T20I, with the former cricketers mocking hm for his lame excuse.

“Chakravarthy can…”: Ashwin’s advice for Harry Brook

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin advised Brook to keep an eye out for Chakravarthy’s googlies, noting that he couldn’t bowl leg spin. The veteran pointed out that the England batter had failed to read the spinner’s googlies at both Eden Gardens and Chepauk. He said that Brook won’t be able to play the googly if he doesn’t see it coming, irrespective of how bad the light was.

There was no smog in Chennai. So, Harry Brook said he got out because of smog at Eden Gardens. I just want to tell one thing to Harry Brook – ‘Harry Brook, keep this thing in mind that Varun Chakravarthy does not bowl leg-spin much, his main strength is googlies only. If you see his hand, you can read the googly. It doesn’t matter how the light is, if you don’t see the googly coming, you won’t be able to play it,” Ashwin said.

In the IND vs ENG 1st T20I, Brook fell prey to Chakravarthy as the latter dismissed him for just 17 runs. He then came up with the smog excuse, raising eyebrows. However, in the 2nd T20I in Chennai, he was once again cleaned up in a similar fashion by the Tamil Nadu spinner, walking back to the pavilion after scoring just 13 runs.

He’s tough to pick. I think actually with the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick as well,” Brook had said after the first T20I in Kolkata.
