Nehra to leave Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2025, Yuvraj likely replacement: Report

Nehra to leave Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2025, Yuvraj likely replacement: Report

In his three years with the franchise, Nehra achieved great success. Taking them to the title in 2022, followed by a final run in 2023, but ended on a bad note as the Titans finished 8th in 2024.

After losing their mentor, Gary Kirsten, the Gujarat Titans have now also lost their head coach, Ashish Nehra, before the IPL 2025 season. The mastermind behind their consecutive IPL final runs in 2022 and 2023 isn’t looking to continue his role. He’s not the only one to leave the franchise, as director of cricket Vikram Solanki looks to part ways with the Titans as well.

Yuvraj Singh for Ashish Nehra

As one former Indian star moves on, the Gujarat Titans may have roped in another one as his replacement. Nehra’s teammate and good friend, Yuvraj Singh, is being considered as the next head coach. However, nothing is finalized right now, and someone else might take over Nehra’s current role.

“Lot of changes on the cards. Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki are highly likely to move on and discussions around Yuvraj Singh have already begun. Nothing is finalised right now but there could be some major changes in the coaching staff of the Gujarat Titans,” says a source told News18.

Gujarat Titans’ turbulent times

Despite topping the season in 2022 and 2023 and winning a title, the IPL 2024 season saw major changes in the Gujarat Titans setup. Hardik Pandya, their captain, moved to the Mumbai Indians in a shocking trade, and Shubman Gill was named as the new skipper. The trade rocked its balance, and with Mohammed Shami also out with injury, the franchise suffered dearly.

Even before the 2024 season ended, Gary Kirsten resigned from his job as mentor and became Pakistan’s new Test head coach. Now, with five months still left before the IPL 2025 mega auction, two people who have been involved with the Gujarat Titans since their inception and have played a pivotal role in their success are also leaving.

As if this weren’t enough, a potential ownership change is also lingering. CVC Capital Partners is looking to sell a major holding in the franchise, and the Adani Group and the Torrent Group are interested in taking over the Gujarat Titans. One can also assume that this sudden change in ownership could be linked to Nehra and Solanki leaving the franchise.
