Asghar Afghan in tears: As Asghar Afghan walked back, the Afghanistan players held their bats up as the 33-year-old walked back to the pavilion. Speaking after the first innings, Asghar Afghan explained his decision to retire, suggesting that Afghanistan cricket was in a good place and he wanted to give an opportunity to the youngsters to play for the team. The former captain broke down while addressing the questions as he bid an emotional farewell to the game. The 33-year-old did not take the field when the second innings resumed and was seen in tears while being seated in the dugout.
Afghan said, “I want to give chance to youngsters. I think this is a good opportunity for that. Most people are asking me why now but it’s something I cannot explain. In the last match, we were hurt too much, and that’s why I decided to retire. There are plenty of memories, it’s difficult for me, but I have to retire.”
