Ashes LIVE Updates: Will Ashes get cancelled midway? Amid growing cases in Australia & England camp, the fourth & fifth Sydney & Hobart Test have come under jeopardy. The number of COVID caseloads has surged to almost a dozen with as many as 8 members from England squad, including head coach Chris Silverwood testing positive. Australia’s Travis Head is the only player who has tested positive but it looks like only a matter of time before more enter isolation. Last month, Australia captain Pat Cummins survived a COVID scare after being found to be close contact with a positive patient.

Back in England, suggestions have already begun of a possible tour cancellation after Australia retained Ashes.

“It’s only a matter of time before more players test positive for Covid-19… common sense should prevail, it’s time for England to come home, end this tour of hell and award the Ashes to Australia,” said a report on DailyMail.

Former England captain Alastair Cook wrote in Sunday Times: “Since the summer of 2020, England have played 17 Tests in bubble conditions, Australia barely any.”

BBL – Six England players recalled to England

England have recalled six superstars after a major rise in COVID-19 cases with now Big Bash League franchises are scrambling for options. The ECB has ordered the England players picked in the T20 squad to tour the West Indies later this month to leave Australia on January 7.

The six players that will have to fly out on Friday are Sam Billings (Sydney Thunder), George Garton (Adelaide Strikers), Tymal Mills (Perth Scorchers), Reece Topley (Melbourne Renegades), Saqib Mahmood (Sydney Thunder) and James Vince (Sydney Sixers), having been named in the squad for the tour of West Indies.
