The incident occurred in the 37th over when Woakes overstepped after Carey pulled an inside edge onto the stumps. There was nothing behind the line. The development meant England missed the opportunity to get Australia bowled out for a cheap total in a bid for a consolation victory in the fifth & final Test at Hobart.

Earlier, Joe Root had dropped Marnus Labuschagne for a duck who went on to score 44 runs on Day 1 at Hobart. The ball was coming straight towards him but Zak Crawley made an unwanted dive in front of him at slips, costing a wicket to visitors England. The match slipped with Labuschagne’s counter-attack as England could have reduced four early wickets in the opening hour on Friday.
Meanwhile, Mark Wood’s maiden five-wicket haul in Ashes helped England stage a comeback on Day 3 in the fifth Test against Australia on Sunday. The hosts were 121/8 before Alex Carey helped Australia extend the lead to 256 in the second innings.
Resuming Day 3, Australia didn’t have a great start as Wood wreaked havoc and dismantled the hosts’ middle order. Wood’s spell in the first session on Sunday has ensured England remain in the game after getting bowled out for 188 in the first innings. Australia will hope to put on a 300-run lead as they take the field on Day 3.
