Ashes 2021-22: Live telecast disrupted due to power outage at the Gabba

Sony Sports Network – who are broadcasting the series live in India, were quick to roll out the information to the puzzled fans.

“We’re experiencing technical difficulties of the LIVE telecast of the Ashes due to Power Outage at the ground. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” Sony Sports tweeted early in the morning during the first session.

What exactly happened? The world feed – which is taken by all broadcasters with coverage of the match – went down midway through the session leaving the majority of viewers in the dark. Channel Seven, who share coverage with Fox Sports in Australia, were able to provide some pictures with their own cameras at the venue but that, too, was interrupted for a period.

Channel 7 also addressed their audience about the “big failure in the compound” before Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed the development. The host board suggested the fans to tune onto the radio commentary till the issue was fixed.

The outage occurred after England lost three early wickets in the first hour of Saturday. Dawid Malan departed for 82 and fell to Nathan Lyon who completed his 400th scalp in Test cricket. Captain Joe Root missed out on his first hundred in Australia by 11 runs before Ollie Pope departed after scoring just 4 runs.

The technical glitch was fixed soon and live actions resumed on the TV sets of the fans around the world before Australia picked a couple of more wickets to push England completely on the back foot.
