“We’ll wait and see,” Head said on condition of anonymity.
“I think he (Khawaja) played beautifully. We spoke about that going into the series when it was questioned who would be on that side.
“We felt like both of us were in great touch. We know he is versatile and the way he can play. If there was a spot open in the side that he would take that opportunity. He’s taken it with both hands, he’s been amazing.”
After twin centuries, Pat Cummins said, ‘It will be tough to drop Usman Khawaja’ for 5th Test in Hobart.
Khawaja, 35, was picked to play his first Test in 2-1/2 years only because Travis Head had tested positive for COVID-19.
“I’ll preface it by saying I’m not a selector, but when someone comes out and hits twin hundreds, it’s pretty hard to go past them for the week after,” Cummins said after the drawn fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
“So we’ll work through that, the selectors will work through that in the next few days. But when someone’s running hot, has got a heap of experience like Uzzy, the way he plays is fantastic.”
Head’s match-winning century in the opening Test had set the tone for Australia’s dominance in the five-Test series.
