Ashes 2021 LIVE: Trevor Bayliss says England can take inspiration from India after going 0-1 down in the series
Ashes 2021-22: Geoffrey Boycott’s blunt question to Joe Root – ‘Why are we so bloody stupid?
“India showed at the start of this year, it is possible to come back from one down to win in Australia,” Trevor Bayliss said as quoted by DailyMail.
“For England to do that they cannot afford anything to go wrong in the second Test because if Australia win in Adelaide it will be an uphill struggle to get back in the series, as we were only too well aware – and I still tend to say ‘we’ when I think back to my time with England – when we found ourselves in this position four years ago,” he added.
- Last year, India lost the opening Test in Adelaide after getting all out for 36 in their second innings.
- Virat Kohli-less India then made a fightback in Melbourne and almost won the game at Sydney and finally breached the Gabba, Brisbane to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
- As many as 11 players got injured during the dramatic series win for India.
- The visitors England are yet to win a Test in Australia since the 2010/11 series when they had won the Ashes series.
What should England do now?
Bayliss feels England should focus on positive in Brisbane like Joe Root and Dawid Malan’s batting and the performance of seamer Ollie Robinson.
“There were positives for England in Brisbane. Ollie Robinson and Mark Wood bowled very well while both Joe Root and Dawid Malan showed how England will have to bat for the rest of this Ashes in that big stand on the third day,” he concluded.
