“Turning back the clock Steve Smith, he doesn’t like bowling much these days, he says he’d rather concentrate on his batting,” Mark Waugh told Fox Cricket.

“Not sure why because he was actually a pretty useful leg spinner,” he added.

Brett Lee added: “Even throughout the shorter form of the game too I thought he had some nice variation.”

“Good probing over from the captain but that might be the only one we see from him,” Isa Guha said.

Waugh added: “That was a really good over, landed them well.”

Smith had last bowled at Test level in November 2019 against Pakistan.

Smith was back as captain of Australia after 3.5 years gap. Everything he touched turned to gold as all his decisions helped Australia dominate England. He also slammed 93 runs in the first innings to take the game away from Joe Root & Co. He had last led Australia in a controversial sandpaper gate Test against South Africa at Cape Town in May 2018 after which he was sacked as captain and banned from international cricket for a year.
