Ashes 2021 LIVE: SUPERMAN Jos Buttler takes incredible catch in happening pink-ball Adelaide Test- Watch video

He spent 204 minutes to ensure it was his lengthiest fifty in Test cricket. He not only looked solid with the bat but also ensured Australia make the most of the opportunities to score runs.

Labuschagne now firmly sits among the world’s greatest batters as World No.2 Test batsman (only behind Joe Root) and above Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson.

Shane Warne said that Labuschagne has turned himself into the “perfect No. 3”.

“He’s got an all-round game. He plays the short ball well, he plays the spinners well, his concentration, he probably leaves the ball as well as anyone … he’s just a class player,” Warne said on Fox Cricket.

“What a No.3, he’s probably in the top few batsmen in the world, he scores all around the ground, and everyone is coming up with different plans to him,” he added.

Fastest to 2,000 Test Runs (by innings):

  • 22 – Don Bradman (AUS)
  • 32 – George Headley (WI)
  • 33 – Herbert Sutcliffe (ENG) & Michael Hussey (AUS)
  • 34 – Marnus Labuschagne (AUS)
  • 35 – Doug Walters (AUS) & Brian Lara (WI)

Ashes 2021 LIVE: Marnus Labuschagne dropped on 21- England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler took an insane catch to send Marcus Harris packing. However, he failed to repeat heroics during the second instance, an easy catch this time around. He dropped Labuschagne while he was getting to the ground after a full stretch jump. The ball fell off his gloves as he failed to grab it in on the go.

Ashes 2021 LIVE: Marnus Labuschagne dropped on 45- During the second instance, it was a leg slip, Ben Stokes, who didn’t pay attention. As a result, England missed another chance to pick a wicket in the second session. Joe Root bowled an off-break which the right-handed batsman failed to read it completely. The ball went past the leg slip towards fine leg for 3 reasons which could have been a wicket and a dot ball. Interestingly, Root had called Stokes for that position for the particular delivery.

Meanwhile, Labuschagne survived a tough chance from Stuart Broad off a short delivery.

Ashes 2021 LIVE: Marnus Labuschagne dropped on 95- England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler was the culprit again as he failed to take a regulation catch when Labuschagne was on 95. It was off James Anderson’s bowling when the England pace spearhead bowled a short delivery on the offside. With no footwork, Labuschagne got a thick edge that should have been collected easily behind the wickets. But, Buttler seems to be having a tough day at the office as he failed to collect it & the ball slipped out of his gloves.

On Day 1 stumps, Australia score read 221/2 with Marnus Labuschange (95*) and Steve Smith (18*) unbeaten at the crease
