The Snicko failure came into notice when Dawid Malan survived a review in England’s second innings after Dawid Malan had edged Josh Hazlewood. There was no conclusive evidence to prove that the ball brushed the bat’s toe on his path during the hotspot. The suggestion was a faint mark at the toe end from Hotspot but the third umpire stuck with the on-field decision- Not out. Back then, the England batsman was batting on 16 and now he remains unbeaten 80. The problem had come into existence when Australia reviewed Jos Buttler’s leg-side catch which showed the ball brushing the thigh pads.
Earlier, David Warner had survived a clean bowled that went straight through the gates to dislodge the stumps. The latter went on to score 94 runs. Meanwhile, the umpire remained unmoved in his first four no-balls. The no-ball was only given after the replay showed Stokes crossing the pitch line.
The opening fixture is being played under previous protocols with on-field umpires as the Boss. Closed borders in Queensland with strict quarantine protocols has affected the normal functioning.
