“We know of at least two more in addition to the four cases (from Monday) so there’s a growing concern that it’s only a matter of time an England player is infected,” reported Fox Cricket.

“We hope that’s not the case but given the close proximity and the time they’re spending together there’s a fear that the cluster in the England camp will only grow,” it added.

AUS vs ENG Live score, Ashes 3rd Test

The players undertook PCR tests after two England support staff and two of their family members tested positive this week and were forced into isolation.

“Players from the Australian and England teams all had PCR Covid-19 Tests after play yesterday and all results have come back negative. The families of both sets of players also had PCR tests yesterday and all returned a negative test,” Cricket Australia wrote on Twitter.

“The England team’s support staff and their family members who tested positive after PCR tests yesterday are in isolation,” it added.

England resumed at 31/4 in their second innings, needing 51 runs to make Australia bat again. Australia are well placed to go 3-0 up and regain the Ashes.

Ashes 2021 LIVE: No changes to Ashes scheduleThe series will continue as planned, with the fourth Test in Sydney on January 5, and the fifth & Final fixture in Hobart on January 18.

“We’ve seen through the last 18 months (we can get games on),” CA boss Nick Hockley said.

“I have to say I am so proud of the work of everybody involved, in particular thank the players but also the governments and health departments across the country. We’re having to learn to live with this,” he added.

Both the teams will leave for New South Wales from Melbourne at the end of this match. They will stay in the exclusive hotel under Level 4 safety protocols to minimise the risk of COVID. The bubble will not allow players to eat or shop with NSW continuing to record cases beyond 6000 per day.

Earlier, England were cleared to play day two on Monday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after taking rapid antigen tests.

‘We’ve stepped up the safety protocols around the dressing-room, wearing masks and keeping distance whenever possible as well,’ James Anderson said as quoted by DailyMail.
