Indian cricket is suffering from a rare condition, where players who have already made it to the Indian team, have been skipping domestic matches, despite being given reminders by the coach Rahul Dravid, and BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
Shreyas Iyer had recently opted out of the Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy knockout matches, after complaining of back issue, despite getting clearance from the NCA. All this, after Ishan Kishan skipped Jharkhand’s entire Ranji season, despite not being part of the Indian team.
This has not gone down well with former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan. In a scathing tweet, the latter questioned, if there were different rules for different players. for playing first-class cricket. Even though he didn’t mention, as towards who, the tweet was directed, but it was evident, that Iyer was the target.
“Is there a different rules for different players for not playing Indian first class cricket in the name of looking after the body?” Pathan wrote. Meanwhile, Iyer has been battling a rough patch in Tests, where has gone without scoring a fifty in 13 innings.
