The ODI World Cup 2023 has the Arun Jaitley Stadium decked out. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) invited its ground personnel, led by chief curator Ankit Datta, to perform the unveiling while other senior administrators were present for the occasion on Thursday as the ICC World Cup Trophy made a stop at the iconic Delhi Stadium.
The association made this gesture as a way to thank the personnel for all of their efforts in preparing the venue. Grounds crew sprang into action after the IPL earlier this year to create two new pitches in the center square as well as two additional strips in the practice areas.
Along with creating one new pitch at the practice area, the square was dug up one and a half feet to build the two additional pitches on either side of the main square. However, in order to keep the surfaces at Arun Jaitley Stadium prepared for the World Cup, the process was finished in less than two months instead of the usual four.
Along with the practice space, the goal is to give teams better practice facilities at the center square at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
“The outfield and ground upkeep have received a lot of attention. Making fresh pitches requires more effort. For the outfield, we use Bermuda Selection 1 grass to keep it looking lush. Additionally, we purchased a ground-covering cover from England. If it rains, it will be simpler to start the game at Arun Jaitley Stadium,” according to DDCA president Rohan Jaitley, who spoke to TOI.
“The infrastructure has also seen a significant improvement. The stadium’s seats have all been modified. Buildings don’t appear to be in disrepair. The fan experience has received special attention. Not merely renovated, but completely overhauled is the infrastructure. Major work has been done on the restrooms. The changing areas have been updated. Every air conditioning vent has been renovated, and water dispensers have been placed at every corner,” according to Jaitley.
