Arshdeep Singh Trolling – IND vs PAK Asia Cup Cricket: Furious with brutal trolling and defacing the Wikipedia page of Arshdeep Singh, IT Ministry has summoned Wikipedia executives. Arshdeep’s Wikipedia page was edited to reflect Khalistan instead of India. It all started when the young Punjab pacer dropped the catch of Asif Ali at a crucial juncture. India went on to lose the match. However, as per the IT Ministry, Arshdeep’s trolling emanated from Pakistan and not India. Follow Asia Cup 2022 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
“Wikipedia executives have been summoned. We are taking this seriously. There are indications that there may have been Pakistani involvement and this could have had implications on our national security and harmony,” a government official told media.
While a barrage of abuse and slurs were hurled at Arshdeep on social media pages, someone changed his Wikipedia page to reflect the Khalistan association. However, further investigation showed the entry was changed by someone in Pakistan, not India. Furious with that, the IT Ministry may also issue a showcase notice to Wikipedia.

India were in control of the contest having dismissed Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Nawaz who had taken the game away from the Men in Blue. The wicket of Ali then would have most likely sealed India’s win, with Arshdeep’s drop proving to be the crucial turning point.
Asif Ali made full use of the opportunity, combining well with Iftikhar Ahmed to score 19 off Bhuvneshwar Kumar to put the game to bed. While Arshdeep tried redeeming himself with pinpoint yorkers to dismiss Asif, the Men in Green eventually sealed a five-wicket win on Sunday.

It’s not the first time though that a cricketer has been trolled for mishaps on the field. Mohammed Shami was targeted by trolls after his poor spell against Pakistan in T20 World Cup as India lost the match by 10 wickets. However, in both cases, a majority of the trolling was from Pro-Pakistan based social media platforms.
Arshdeep has found support in former cricketers across the border. Virat Kohli at the post-match press conference also defended Arshdeep, saying mistakes can happen but should remain on the field.

“Even when I played my first game against Pakistan in Champions Trophy, I played a bad shot and got out. Anyone can make mistakes under pressure. It is natural to feel bad. The team environment is great right now, credit for this goes to management and captain. So one must accept his mistake, address it and look forward to being in that pressure situation once again,” said Kohli in a post-match press conference on Sunday.
