India pacer Arshdeep Singh grabbed his first-ever five-wicket haul as he wreaked havoc on South Africa in the 1st ODI at Johannesburg. Having delivered two consecutive strikes in his first over, Arshdeep added two more scalps to his name before adding Phehlukwayo as his 5th victim. He finished his 10-over spell with figures of 37/5.
Arshdeep Singh gets maiden ODI 5-fer
The five wickets also mark Arshdeep’s first scalps in the white-ball format of the game. Previously, the pacer had taken no wickets when he played three ODIs against New Zealand in 2022.
India’s pacers Arshdeep and Avesh Khan took matters into their own hands as they shared nine wickets amongst themselves. While Arshdeep scalped his maiden 5-wicket haul, Avesh Khan grabbed four wickets, throwing the Proteas batting-line up out of order.
Phelukwayo (33) top -scored for South Africa while the rest of the line-up failed to fire against a fired up Indian pace attack. South Africa had won the toss and elected to bat first – perhaps a wrong call as the 1st ODI is turning out to be a nightmare.
