IND vs WI: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced India’s Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour. The selection committee included a few new names keeping in mind the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 which is set to be played in India this October but pacer Arshdeep Singh’s name was missing.
While players like Umran Malik and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been recalled, pacer Arshdeep Singh failed to find a spot yet again, suggesting that the youngster is not in India’s World Cup plans.
Notably, Arshdeep last played an ODI match in November last year. He hasn’t played an international match since February.
Notably, Arshdeep Singh struggled with line and length in the last couple of series and his persistent no-balls in crucial junctures of the match in Sri Lanka and New Zealand series had left Hardik Pandya and Rahul Dravid frustrated.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has retained his place despite a horror outing in the 50-over format. With Rishabh Pant unavailable due to injury, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have been named as the wicketkeeper-batters.
Leading the pace battery in the ODI series will be Mohammed Siraj, who has been in impressive form. Pacer Umran Malik and Mukesh Kumar have been recalled into the side.
The spin department sees no surprises, with Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja securing their places in the squad.
The West Indies ODI series will commence on July 27 in Barbados.
India’s ODI Squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.
