The Mumbai Indians (MI) included a fast-bowling all-rounder in their first XI but it is not Arjun Tendulkar! The left-arm seamer, who played four matches in IPL 2023, has continuously being warming the bench and was once again ignored. In Match 55 of IPL 2024 against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), MI handed a debut to another seam bowler in Anshul Kamboj.
The five-time champions have handed opportunities to 21 different players this season, but Arjun Tendulkar has remained on sidelines. Last season, he bagged three wickets at an economy rate of 9.36.
Joy to sorrow in a matter of few seconds for debutant Kamboj
The opening moment for debutant Anshul Kamboj were filled with with highs and lows. In his 2nd over, Kamboj had the opportunity to dismiss star batter Travis Head, but it turned out to be a ‘no-ball’.
The excitement of taking a wicket quickly turned into sorrow for Kamboj as he realized his mistake. To add to his disappointment, he followed it up with another no-ball, leaking a total of 32 runs in his first two overs.
The misery continued for the 23-year-old when Travis Head was dropped off his third over. Nuwan Thusara, standing at deep third man, dropped an absolute sitter.
Kamboj finally got his maiden IPL wicket
These series of events finally ended in a fruitful way for Kamboj as the youngster eventually got his maiden IPL wicket. Two balls after Thusara’s drop, Kamboj clean bowled another veteran in Mayank Agarwal.
