Another reason to worry for SRH! Amidst poor form Heinrich Klaasen now under massive injury concerns

Retained at Rs 23.00 crore, Heinrich Klaasen is the costliest overseas player in the IPL 2025.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) turned all the heads after they did the unthinkable. The highest retention slab was set at Rs 18 crore for the IPL 2025 but they went too far ahead to keep destructive keeper Heinrich Klaasen for a mega amount of Rs 23.00 crore. But now, the Orage Army has a thing or two to worry about. While Pat Cummins already missed out on the ICC Champions Trophy, Klaasen is a new SRH member who is under injury concerns.

Heinrich Klaasen ruled out of AFG vs SA Champions Trophy match

South Africa and Afghanistan played in Group B’s opening match at the ICC Champions Trophy. Heinrich Klaasen, who recently played a game in the tri-series against Pakistan, was slotted to play. However, he was forced to sit out. “Klaasen has been ruled out of today’s contest due to a left elbow soft tissue injury. It’s a precautionary measure,” read Cricbuzz after Temba Bavuma, the South African captain, won the toss and elected to bat first in Karachi.

Soft tissue injuries often come in the form of bruises or strains. However, it surely can aggravate if not looked after carefully. While the Proteas did the right thing to rest out Klaasen, with two of their biggest matches (vs AUS, vs ENG) coming up in the tournament. However, SRH now has a thing or two to worry about. If not recovered fully, Klaasen might not be fully fit. Moreover, dealing with injuries isn’t ideal for any player, let alone a batter who is struggling with consistency.

Klaasen had a poor campaign while playing for Durban’s Super Giants at the SA20 2025. His franchise failed to qualify for the knockouts in a six-team tournament and Klaasen’s failure was a massive part of that. He failed to get a score above 30 runs in the first five innings. He did score a 66 against the MI Cape Town but that came in a losing cause. Apart from this, Klaasen didn’t have a great T20I series against India as well. Against the Suryakumar Yadav-led side, he made 68 runs at an average of 17.00.
