KL Rahul is set to miss the IND vs PAK clash in the Asia Cup 2023, chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed in his press conference on Monday. Rahul has been out of action for four months but has been cleared to return to the Indian Cricket Team. The 30-year-old is expected to return for the 2nd or 3rd game of the Asia Cup. As a precaution, Sanju Samson has been named as a travelling reserve.
“Shreyas Iyer has been declared fully fit. It is great news. KL Rahul is carrying a niggle. But we expect him to get fit by the second or third game of the Asia Cup. These two are extremely important players for us,” Ajit Agarkar said.
Agarkar confirmed that it was a fresh setback for Rahul unrelated to his groin problem. Rahul had undergone surgery in Germany for the same, missing out on the second half of IPL 2023. He has since been rehabilitated at the NCA in Bengaluru. The 30-year-old featured in a couple of practice games, and a full injury update is expected in due course.
