Ravichandran Ashwin has been a faithful servant for the Indian Cricket Team. However, the veteran all-rounder has been exclusively used in home conditions. Former India skipper Anil Kumble has claimed that Ashwin should have played more Test matches for India in overseas conditions.
Usually, India has opted for Ravindra Jadeja exclusively in overseas conditions. Ashwin has been used mostly in spin friendly tracks away from India, Kumble has pointed out that Ashwin should have been used more in foreign pitches.
“We talk about Ashwin in India but don’t forget Ashwin outside India is quality. I have always said that Ashwin should have played more outside India. The amount of wickets Ashwin and Jadeja have produced in India, they should have been the first pick outside India. Ask Nick Knight if they would be comfortable facing Ashwin and Jadeja in tandem in England,” said Anil Kumble during tea break of Day 2 of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test in Rajkot.
Out of his 98 Test matches, Ashwin has played only 40 matches away from home. Among overseas, Ashwin has played the highest, 12 matches in Australia. Apart from that Ashwin has majorly a part of the Indian squad in India. The star all-rounder featured in 58 Test matches on home soil.
