The West Indies have named a powerful squad for the first two T20Is in their five-match series against England, set to begin on November 9. With big names like all-rounder Andre Russell and wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran making their comeback, West Indies aim to bring strength and experience back to the squad.
Russell and Pooran, who missed the recent Sri Lanka tour, are set to rejoin the T20I lineup along with spinner Akeal Hosein and batter Shimron Hetmyer. These four players had been unavailable against Sri Lanka due to personal commitments, but their return promises a boost to the team.
Hetmyer’s return to T20Is after ODI series appearance
Hetmyer recently played in the ODI series against England, marking his return to the One Day International format after nearly a year. Although he has only one T20I appearance this year (in a series against South Africa in August), his return brings a reliable middle-order option.
Forde replaces suspended Alzarri Joseph
Pacer Alzarri Joseph is suspended for the first two games, with Matthew Forde stepping in as his replacement. Forde joins an impressive pace lineup, partnering with Shamar Joseph, Terrance Hinds, and Russell.
Under Rovman Powell’s captaincy, the West Indies will have Hosein and Gudakesh Motie as spin options, while all-rounders Romario Shepherd, Sherfane Rutherford, and Roston Chase add depth. These versatile players provide flexibility in both batting and bowling.
Top order and schedule
Shai Hope, Brandon King, and Evin Lewis round out the top order for the series, which opens with consecutive matches in Barbados on November 9 and 10. The series will then continue in Saint Lucia for the remaining games on November 14, 16, and 17.
