Being labeled as a ‘militant coach’ isn’t exactly what you want to be known as. Unfortunately for KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit, what he has been described as by former Kolkata Knight Riders player David Wiese. The Namibian, who was part of the side last year, called Pandit an authoritarian and strict taskmaster on a podcast recently.
Andre Russell, KKR’s hero in their IPL 2024 season opener, addressed the controversy ahead of the RCB vs KKR match. When asked whether he has had the same sort of experience with Chandrakant Pandit, he said, ‘Not really’.
The all-rounder further said that not only has the KKR head coach helped him get back his confidence, but also the franchise has helped him during his lean period.
Andre Russell said: “I’ve had numerous conversations with numerous coaches in different franchises that I’ve played for. Chandu sir was helping me get back that confidence. This franchise gave me confidence last year as well. It’s all about the mindset. I was thinking about just going out there and doing what I do best.”
He further added that one has to mold themselves to the coaches’ philosophy and not moan about such issues as being a professional. He said:
“We’ve been working with him from last year. I think when you’re working with a coach for the first time, you have to make sure that you adjust to their philosophy. There have to be rules. We are professionals. So, we don’t complain. I try to do the best for this franchise.”
