India is gearing up to host the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship for the first-ever time. The 18th edition of the tournament will get underway on 6th December 2023, Wednesday at the Koramangala Stadium in Bengaluru.
While India will host the event for the first-ever time, Prime Volleyball League champions Ahmedabad Defenders will be the first-ever Indian team to feature in the tournament. Check All you need to know about the 18th FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships.
Volleyball Club World Championships 2023 – Groups
A total of six teams will play in the tournament. The teams will be divided into two groups comprising three teams each.
Pool A has Ahmedabad Defenders. They will be the first Indian team to play in the tournament. Itambe Minas of Brazil and defending champions Sicoma Perugia of Italy are also in the same pool.
Meanwhile in the other group, Brazil’s Sada Zruzerio Volley, Japan’s Suntory Sunbirds and Turkey’s HalkbankSpor Kulubu will all be facing each other.

Pool A: Ahmedabad Defenders, Itambe Minas, Sicoma Perugia
Pool B: Sada Zruzerio Volley, Suntory Sunbirds, HalkbankSpor Kulubu
All the teams will be playing each other once in the group stage. Following that, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinal. The final will then be played on 10th December.
Ahmedabad Defenders – Squad
Ahmedabad Defenders have named a strong 15-member squad for the tournament. The team will be led by Muthuswamy Appavu. Amit Gulia, Azmath Ullah, Santhosh Sahaya Anthoni Raj, Nandagopal Subramanyam and Australia’ s Mex Senica will be the attackers for the side.
Tamilvanan Srikanth and Ramanathan Ramamoorthy will be the Liberos. Ashwal Rai, Shameemudheen, Srajan Shetty, Parth Patel and Manoj Manjunatha are the middle blockers.
