Prithvi Shaw, the talented cricketer currently representing Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League 2024, finds himself embroiled in legal proceedings as a Mumbai sessions court issued summons to him on Tuesday.
This development comes in response to a plea filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill, who has challenged the orders of a magistrate regarding her complaint against the cricketer.
Background of Case: Prithvi Shaw vs Sapna Gill
Earlier this month, a metropolitan court in Andheri directed a police enquiry based on Sapna Gill’s plea, which sought an FIR against Prithvi Shaw for allegedly molesting her at a pub.
However, the court dismissed another plea by Gill, which sought action against the police for not registering a case on her complaint against Shaw and his friend.
Review Application
Displeased with the court’s decisions, Sapna Gill filed a review application before a sessions court in Malad, asserting that the magistrate’s orders were irregular and illegal. She claimed that the court had gravely erred in its judgment.
Legal Proceedings
In response to the review application, Additional Sessions Judge D G Dhoble issued summons to Prithvi Shaw and the airport police, who had initially declined to register a case when Gill approached them.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 6, allowing both parties to present their arguments and evidence.

Background of Allegations: Prithvi Shaw vs Sapna Gill
Sapna Gill’s legal battle against Prithvi Shaw stems from an incident in February 2023 when she, along with others, was arrested in connection with an attack on Shaw following an altercation over taking selfies at a suburban hotel.
Currently out on bail, Gill lodged a complaint of molestation against Shaw and his friend Ashish Yadav with the airport police station in Andheri after the incident. Subsequently, she moved the magistrate court when the police failed to register a case against the cricketer.
Allegations and Legal Action
Sapna Gill’s complaint sought the registration of an FIR against Prithvi Shaw and Ashish Yadav under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including molestation, insult to modesty, and causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means, alleging that Shaw and his friend had assaulted her with a bat.
