Amidst alleged rift between Rohit & new skipper, Hardik has a special message for ‘Hitman’

Rohit Sharma has become only the third player to feature across 200 IPL games for a single franchise, the others being MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

In the MI vs SRH match on Wednesday, all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma, who achieved a remarkable feat when he entered the field. The current Indian captain has become the first-ever player to feature across 200 IPL matches for the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Ahead of the landmark match for Rohit, several teammates, including Hardik Pandya, the new MI captain, spoke highly of the former skipper. Since Pandya’s appointment, rumors of a rift between the two players have floated.

Fans were upset with Rohit’s removal, especially considering his five IPL titles with MI. Hardik’s comments about not meeting Rohit since the decision further intensified the rumors. Additionally, on-field moments where Rohit and Jasprit Bumrah seemed to disagree with Hardik’s captaincy rubbed the salt to the wound.

However, in a recent video shared the Mumbai franchise, Pandya was seen lauding Rohit’s achievement. Iterating how the ‘Hitman’ has been one of the pillars of the franchise, Pandya said:

“You’ve (Rohit Sharma) been one of the pillars this (MI) franchise who has achieved so much under your belt. Ro, you are known for your double centuries. I am sure this one will also be special.”

Rohit is the joint-most successful captain in IPL history, having led MI to as many as five titles (in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020). It was under Rohit’s leadership when Pandya announced his arrival in the cash-rich league and contributed to four different championship wins.

Rohit – The King of Mumbai

For his memorable 200th IPL appearance for MI, Rohit received many plaudits from his teammates. While most of them wished him well for the game against SRH, some players talked about his massive contributions for the franchise.

Sachin Tendulkar, who is the current mentor at MI, also narrated how he suggested Mrs. Nita Ambani, MI’s owner to buy Rohit.

“Long time ago, I was having a conversation with Mrs Ambani that we have to bring Rohit to Mumbai Indians.,” said Tendulkar in the video shared by Mumbai Indians on their ‘X’ account.
