Amid Warner-Johnson saga, CA boss wants Australia to do ‘talking on the pitch’

The David Warner-Mitchell Johnson saga has snowballed over the past few weeks and refuses to die down ahead of PAK vs AUS

Even as the debate over Mitchell Johnson’s scathing attack on David Warner rages unabated, Cricket Australia chief executive has broken in silence on the matter. Johnson’s column on Warner’s swangsong and the ball-tampering scandal triggered a debate among fans and cricketers, which has only snowballed. Now, ahead of the PAK vs AUS Test, Nick Hockley has spoken about the issue, backing the current Australian side to do well.

CA boss refuses to comment on Johnson-Warner saga

As per Fox News, the CA boss refused to intervene in on-going drama, noting that everyone was entitled to their opinions. Citing the experience of the current Australia side and years they have played together, Hockley said that the team was doing well across all three formats. He further added that Australia’s World Cup 2023 victory against India was the toughest among the six trophies they have won so far.

A fair amount has been said, and everyone’s entitled to their own opinions,” he said.

“I think what you’ve seen over this year and the last two years is the current men’s team in all formats playing in great spirit.

“The success of the World Cup is being hailed as arguably the greatest World Cup victory out of the six to beat India in India.

I know that this team really wants to do its talking on the pitch.”

Johnson’s scathing attack on Warner

Johnson launched a scathing attack on Warner regarding the upcoming farewell Test series. In a column for The West Australian, Johnson questioned the privilege of a struggling Test opener being able to choose his retirement date. Johnson, known for his strong opinions, didn’t shy away from bringing up the infamous “Sandpapergate” scandal from 2018.

Johnson criticized Warner’s perceived arrogance and disrespect towards the country, emphasizing that his farewell series echoes the same attitude. The former fast bowler even humorously suggested that fans might bring sandpaper to the farewell, referencing the scandal.
