Jasprit Bumrah remains on the sideline following a lower back injury sustained in the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He’s already missed the ICC Champions Trophy, and it’s uncertain whether he’ll be available for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season either.
Bumrah happy for Shami
However, Bumrah was present in Dubai for the India vs. Pakistan match. He was presented the ICC Player of the Year and ICC Test Player of the Year awards. Still recovering and under the guidance of the National Cricket Academy (now Centre of Excellence), Bumrah is happy that his partner-in-crime Mohammed Shami has been filling the void he has left.
“I’m really happy for him (Shami). Obviously, he’s had an injury struggle for so long. It takes a toll. But he’s been very happy and very positive,” Bumrah told ICC.

Shami’s skill & experience to help India
Shami had injured his ankle during the ODI World Cup 2023, and during his 12-month rehab, he has had knee and shin issues. But at last, he recovered and was added to India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy. Bumrah backs the pacer. Yes, he still doesn’t look his best, but the world’s best pacer has no doubt that Shami will help India lift the trophy on March 9 in Dubai.
“Looks good; he has the skill, obviously; that will never go anywhere. The more he plays, the more confidence will come, and hopefully, he’ll help the team go further,” he added.
